Memorial service

Today marks a special point in our trip as we passed over a wreckage of USS Neoshos that was sunk during the Battle of the Coral Sea. There is a nice write up by Rob Beaman in the Courier Times about how the RV Investigator uses high resolution mapping of the seafloor to identify not just seamounts, but also shipwrecks.

International Men’s grooming day

Chief Scientist, Jo Whittaker, has compiled a calendar of international days of significance in an effort to stave off cabin fever. Today is international men’s grooming day! Wherever you are, gentlemen, take some time to groom yourself.

Chantelle’s graduation

Chantelle Ridley had to apply to graduate in absentia because she’s on the voyage, but her graduation ceremony is today had she been at the University of Tasmania. Thus, we created an unoffical ceremony to celebrate her academic achievements.

“Chancellor” Karin Orth presents Chantelle Ridley her certificate in award of the Bachelor of Science. An honorary dance was officiated on the front deck to celebrate. It is, you guessed it, the mating dance of the Blue-footed Boobies…
